I have a proposition for you. I hope you like it, because otherwise I’ll feel like a bit of goose. Here’s the deal:
If you1 create a Captain Forever forum2, I’ll release3 the Captain Jameson alpha4.
- 1By “you” I mean the community. Anyone. Possibly several people. Ideally multiple forums will emerge. If you want to build a forum then don’t let the efforts of others disuade you!
- 2The forum must be dedicated to or at least heavily feature the Captain Forever games. This would be a place for players to find release notes and announcements, trade mapping and exploration notes, post feedback about the games, and generally hang out.
- 3The alpha build will be released for play by all Captain Forever supporters, ideally within 24 hours of me being notified about the first forum, but possibly up to a week later if I encounter unforseen technical disasters.
- 4The alpha is an incomplete version of the game Captain Jameson. This means that it may be missing some features of and contain more bugs than the final version. You will have the opportunity to play the game before it is complete, and help fine-tune it. I still plan to finish and release the game, regardless of the presence of an alpha build.
I’m very excited about sharing this game with you, but I really need there to be somewhere for everyone to discuss it first. I hope someone out there can summon up the pony to pony up and get this pony (forum) on the road.

@Flyboy – I hadn’t originally planned it like that, but if only one forum emerges then that might be a good idea. Either way, any forum that isn’t horrifically offensive will get a link from the Captain Forever community pages.

Calling it the Captain Forever forum would exclude Captain Successor and your other projects by denotation.
@Darkond – Ah. I think of them all as part of Captain Forever. Unfortunately calling the first episode Forever really confused the matter.
Farbs, would you register for an account to help me out? Not just as an Admin, also as a test. I’m not sure how to approve new members. ^u^;
^ I tried to register but the Confirmation code (anti-bot) wouldn’t show up. Do we want to run with that forum or should we change the name, say “CptForever.(proboards,freeforums etc)” ?

I’ve created a Captain Forever community on reddit. It can be used as a forum, or just as a place to share links, news, ship designs.
Reddit’s cool because a) a bunch of gamers already have accounts, b) it’s famously quick to make one if you don’t, and c) you can vote on stories, so the coolest ships/biggest announcements drift to the top, rather than just the most recently replied.

Excited at the delicious prospect of an Alpha! Is there any merit to a unified Bug forum/tracker? I’ve seen it become a tad frustrating for developers (especially with Alpha releases) to have the same bugs “discovered” all the time =D
(Ofc the Farbs magic may mean there are no bugs!)
Haha, I can guarantee bugs. I just uploaded a build (not playable online yet but sooooon), and immediately found a bug and had to replace it. Normally I think I’ll probably just upload new builds weekly, or thereabouts. We’ll see.
(EDIT) The bugs was: Current date was used on scrap station itemized quotes. Obviously this is incorrect, with the CF universe plodding along 20 years in our alternate past.
That crazy eye for detail (unless the station was selling flux capacitor modules)!

Oh man, I misunderstood. I thought that Farbs was going to make a PUBLIC release. I’m not a Captain Forever supporter, because I can’t afford it. Dang.
That’s not to say that I’m going to abandon the forum!
