I have a crazy busy week this week, cramming all the major features I’d planned for Captain Jameson into 7 days. My schedule used to look like this:
- Week 1: Console
- Week 2: Passengers
- Week 3: Station Functionality
- Week 4: Persistence
- Several Months: Polish and Content
Now it’s:
- Monday: Console
- Tuesday: Passengers
- Wednesday: Station Functionality
- Thrusday: Persistence
- Friday Saturday Sunday: Polish and Content
That’s right, I invented Thrusday. This condensed schedule means things will only be finished to prototype quality, but it’ll be great to get all this in the game. It’ll also be interesting to see whether this plan is even slightly feasible. No time for wondering now though – Monday: Console.

Definitely looking forward to seeing this in action; press forward!
Why is it that you’re rushing it?
PAX10 submission deadline is June 15th. I’d forgotten about it.
I’ll go back and revise my work afterwards.
Oh, I will personally give you a hi-five if you finish this game by your deadline.
Also, passengers? I understand station functionality, but passengers? What, we will have people hijacking our ship? O_o
we need some EVA to sabotage enemy ships that are docked in a high security neutral zone.
that was myhope for passengers from some reason.
Wow, good luck!
“Good luck and remember, we’re all counting on you.”
loving the new schedule it looks just like mine when I make a game, i find i love smashing out engines for games and make them to a pretty high standard, its the polishing i struggle on, could you give me any advice as to how you make this process a bit more organised without it just going on forever and captain forever? ps proper laughed at play pen it just got funnier and funnier, was like a physcodelic granny’s garden (if you remember that!)
Hmm… the only advice I can think to give is to schedule at least 75% of your time to polish. If you expect it to go on forever then maybe it won’t seem so long
good advice, i think where i’m used to making games with no storyline etc (single play highscore things) the polish times can be relatively low, moving onto bigger projects i’m probably not allowing enough time. i started making an open world gta style game in box2d this is why i was so interested about captain forever and your blog, especially seeded random number and persistant objects so simple but i hadn’t thought of it. So yeah search “thor city game” if you want to see my very unpolished effort. kudos on your efforts with this series and good luck for the PAX10 submission.
